Conditions permitting we will be meeting at Shaw's Cove at 7am to get the New Year started right,
Our Alternate site will be Divers Cove or S Crescent depending on which way the swell's are coming from,
Please Post here to let us Know if you plan on coming that way someone can wait for you and
try to be at lease 15min early for a group shot and the dive briefing

It's a pretty strong NW out at sea a bit. Near the shore it looks calmer. Being a NW Shaws will probably be protected inside the cove.

It's also at the far edge of what the can predict.. I'd expect to see the forecasted conditions change over the next couple days. They usually predict it to be rougher than it actually ends up being.. but we'll see!

I'm in. Will be there with two tanks. Meet at Shaws? Or at Divers Cove and decide from there?

i will meet you there. let me know how the conditions are. If the conditions are not going to be good then i need to know because i am suppose to be on a hike on saturday at the same time. so if the conditions are not "safe" for me then i will go on the hike instead.

why would the beach be closed for diving?

According to up-coming swell prediction's, there is a high surf warning as of late this week and weekend. To us divers, this is not (necessarily) good. When surf is up, Conditions are usually crap.

1. Laguna have the tendencies to close the beach for Divers when the surf is bad/high
2."Safe" Is a basic fundamental rule you learn when in training and or in the process of being certified. So dive "Safe"
3. You can find plenty of information on swell, surf, tides etc. web sites for further information on your dive site conditions, or better planning.

This post, on another scuba board, pretty much sums up why the beaches might be closed...

Laguna Beach Dive Laws

The thread containing the post is also pretty interesting. I am pretty sure that Leonard, the person that started the thread, has done more dives in Shaw's Cove (and inside the reef at Shaw's Cove) than anyone I have ever met.

Or not... I'm still up fixing a computer OS glitch. So instead of getting up early Saturday morning, I will be staying up late into Saturday morning...

I won't be making it to the dive...
